Community Idol 2011

On Saturday, 3rd September 2011, the grand final of the fifth annual York Community Idol contest took place in the Grand Opera House. This was the second year in a row when I've had the privilege of filming the event to produce the official DVD. Although I knew a little of what to expect, I was still amazed by the talent; you folks are fantastic!

Once again, we collected a variety of footage: mostly high-definition stuff from the back of the stalls and from a fixed camera in the gallery, supplemented once again by audience's-eye footage from York's finest camera team, my wife and my former flatmate. This year we also had an intrepid reporter interviewing the acts backstage, and I was also able to go along to the earlier stages in the contest—so, all told, something like 11 hours' worth of footage to be edited...

Copies of the complete DVD were sold in aid of York charity SNAPPY, but most of the individual performances are below. You can watch them here or click through to YouTube to see high-definition versions of a higher quality than would fit on the DVD. You can also right-click the link underneath each video to download a version that should work on all iPods, iPhones and iPads, as well as most computers.
